Semana Santa

We can call it

Granada

cold sun and green skies flying

when you pass this way I know I’m dying

not just typing ceaseless words

I don’t make this noise to curse

my sense of apathy, abstracted commentary

in tumultuous waves tossed up aplenty

you don’t know the words I’m slaying

I don’t have to because no one’s paying

to me the slightest bit of attention

so bend and twist you force of dimension

forgive him if he drinks too much

better he drinks than he thinks too much

this painting wraps a finger of hope

the best of things fits me to cope

well maybe that’s so, I hear

selling your wares unawares where you dare

were you really stringing along that line

and hanging them apart sublime?

I never realised the cold sun and skies

where always so green as your eyes

time flies slowly but sand falls quick

through the eye and heralds a new day sick

adorning a family neighbourhood

acute in folding paper, card, canvas and wood

troubled with experience of sand and blood

caskets of vermillion and yellow oxide

trembling fingers holler to one side

retreat in my harness now solidly blue

In all honesty what now would you

have me do?

hills of suede and icing sugar

spread with palette knife, fried in butter

the fisherman’s catch in tethered rock

tableau of stone in shattered shock

in vitriolic fervour of frustrated happening

under rotted bridges and ragged scattering

going internal please curdle and jam

that passage through arterial dam

in muddy flows your concrete complexion

drops from a veldt of absent affection

catedral sits in sickening rock

borne on the hands of a quivering flock

to buy a place in heaven with Him

and sidestep that unholy din

too late to know what can’t be known

when you’ve realised you’ve turned to stone

the route to safety already blown

away and yet seek tether and groan

fastidiously you do shudder and enter

that contract with the absent mentor

Hi everyone!

How’s your Easter break going? We hope you’re enjoying it wherever you are. This Friday there’s no Quiz as it’s a holiday. We will of course be open on Friday from midday onwards as always so pop in for a few if you’re in the area. Hope to see you soon!

Pub Quiz 16/03/12

Pub Quiz Friday night!

This week it’s a special one! Not only do we have a very charming guest Quiz Mistress (go girl power!), we also have an extra prize of the wine variety for the members of the winning team (max 6 people), kindly donated by Cortijo El Anchurón. So, no excuses!

Find all you need to know about our weekly Pub Quiz here. Also, add us on facebook to see more photos and keep up to date with what’s going on at Totes y Amigos.

PLEASE don’t be late!! We’ve had a fair few latecomers in the recent weeks. We may be in Spain but this is an English Pub Quiz after all so be punctual please! At least you can be thankful it’s not German or else we’d all be there already. ;)

The Quiz STARTS and I mean STARTS at 10pm so you really need to BE THERE (actually, physically IN THE BAR) at 9.30pm. I mean it! We’re nice people most of the time but tardiness makes us grumpy. If you’re not there we’ll start without you. If you’ve not been to the bar before you can find us here.

Rant over, looking forward to seeing you on Friday night! It’s always a really fun night and a great way to start the weekend, even if I say so myself! A special thanks to Granada Insider for preparing the all important questions. See you Friday 9.30pm sharp. ;)

Pardon Me?!

Time and time again we English-speakers see signs and think “Why oh why did they not just take a few seconds to get a native speaker to read it first?!” Here are a few examples of Wonderful English Around The World.

In a Bangkok temple:
IT IS FORBIDDEN TO ENTER A WOMAN, EVEN A FOREIGNER, IF DRESSED AS A MAN.

Cocktail lounge, Norway:
LADIES ARE REQUESTED NOT TO HAVE CHILDREN IN THE BAR.

Doctor’s office, Rome:
SPECIALIST IN WOMEN AND OTHER DISEASES.

Dry cleaner’s, Bangkok:
DROP YOUR TROUSERS HERE FOR THE BEST RESULTS.

In a Nairobi restaurant:
CUSTOMERS WHO FIND OUR WAITRESSES RUDE OUGHT TO SEE THE MANAGER.

Pancake Race 21/02/12

¡Totes y Amigos celebra Pancake Day con estilo con una carrera de relevos por el Río Genil, Granada!

Totes y Amigos celebrates Pancake Day in style with a relay race along the River Genil, Granada!

Pancake Day Race!

Here’s how the Pancake Day Race will work so you can get training!

If lots of people want to have a go then we’ll have relay teams. They will race 2 at a time up and down the terrace area!

Each team will have 1 frying pan and 1 pancake. If people prefer to watch rather than take part we’ll have individuals racing against each other.

The objective is to reach the finish line FIRST and with the pancake as WHOLE as possible! If you destroy your pancake, you lose!!

You can walk, run, hop or skip but you must be flipping your pancake at all times! Good luck!

Pancake Day!

Join us on Tuesday 21 February to celebrate Shrove Tuesday, or as it is often better known, PANCAKE DAY!

Come to Totes in the evening to witness first hand this amazing day and what it involves!! You will know you have experienced a real Pancake Day when:

A) You eat approximately 17 pancakes. You know you should stop but you can’t! It’s Panckake Day! You eat 8 more… You feel sick. Never again! You wait 5 minutes and eat 87 more. You never want to see another pancake again. Alright then, just one more….. WHY????!!!

B) You have multiple burns on your hand.

C) There is pancake on the ceiling, the floor, in your hair and all over every previously recognisable surface.

D) You are a pancake and you fear for your life.

Come this Tuesday evening to see how we celebrate this day with a Pancake Race along the river and pancake tossing (throwing)!! This only comes once a year!

Hint hint!
